What we’re excited for in February / March

We love getting to chat with you and your children when you visit us in the salon, but the amount of times you guys haven’t been aware of fun kids events in Adelaide is mind-boggling! So, we thought, to save you (or us even!) missing out on a fun upcoming event, we will do the research and share a regular blog post with all our favourite upcoming events! These are the events we are the most excited for – the events we think you, as parents with kiddies will appreciate. You’re welcome 😉

17th Feb – 4th March
The Adelaide Fringe
This is an exciting one guys! There are SO many fun shows coming up – many specifically for kids both young and older. We’ve heard lots of parents come in and tell us they have booked multiple shows for their kids, so you may want to jump on their website and book quite soon to avoid missing out. If your little one is into Disney movies (and who isn’t), there is a Disney Delights show, or if circus acrobatic stuff is more their thing, they’ve got that too – there are magic shows, disco’s and more! There are always lots of yummy food trucks and fun things happening at the Fringe – definitely a fun one worth trying. Now until 30th April
The MIX 102.3 Giant Ferris Wheel at Glenelg
A favourite among the kids and not so bad for parents either, with beautiful views of Glenelg and the beach. Pricing isn’t too bad, you can get a Gondola for just $45, which allows for 6 people. Go at night time if you want to see it lit up – it’s beautiful. You don’t need to book ahead, you can just show up and grab tickets there!

26th February
Sunday Markets at Glenelg Partridge House
We love a good market! Especially when it’s in the gardens of Partridge House in Glenelg (this place is beautiful!!). From 10am-3pm there will be 50+ local brands, food trucks, kids face painting and live music from 11.30am. Another free event you can take the family along to!

26th February
Playford Science Fair
See the Wipe Out Waste Wizard, Professor Flint, Nitro Nat, Bugs n Slug and experience hands on activities including slime making at the Playford Science Fair (Playford Civic Centre)! There are morning and afternoon sessions available. You can find out more at www.thesciencecollective.com

19th March
Touch a Truck
From 10am-2pm you can attend this event for FREE (we love free events) and get a free sausage sizzle, while you explore Trucks, Tractors, a Petting Zoo, Jumping Castle and more. There’s a Face Painter too, and Sensory Hour (no sirens/loud noises) between 1pm-2pm. This event is at the FARM Centre – 40 Hanson Street, Freeling SA. We know a few kids who would LOVE this one.

Definitely let us know if you get around to any of these fun kids events in Adelaide AND whether or not your kids loved them! Word of mouth is everything, and the feedback can be shared among our little community at Dream Cuts so other parents, grandparents and carers etc know what’s up. Pamper Party Adelaide

If the very idea of a ‘Pamper Party’ brings to mind an image of your child beaming from ear to ear, then our Adelaide Pamper Party Packages are for you (or them, rather 😉)! Hosted in our stunning Westfield Marion salon, your child and up to 5 of their friends will experience the royal treatment at our Hollywood Mirrors and Angel Manicure/Pedicure chairs. With photo-time at the end of their party against our beautiful photo wall, they really will feel like a group of VIPs (hello, paparazzi!).

With three amazing Pamper Party Packages on offer, your most difficult job will be trying to decide which one to go for! Depending on the Package you select, services such as Fingernail and Toenail Polish makeovers, Stunning Hair Braiding, Eyeshadow Application, Face Gems and Glitter, Hair Glitter and MORE are on offer. Did we mention two out of our three packages includes a flute of sparkling pink lemonade for the party guests on arrival too? It’s important that our VIP guests are hydrated, after all.

If facial reactions are anything to go by, the mouth drops and excited eyes of past party guests when they arrive at the Party area or even just the mere sight of our Glitter Bar options / Eyeshadow Palettes confirm that we are the Pamper Party experts (if we do say so ourselves 😉).

Kids Hairdressing / Barber in Adelaide

Looking for the best hairdresser or barber in Adelaide for your baby’s first hair cut? We have made it our mission to change the experience of first haircuts, with our unique car and airplane chairs for them to sit in, wonderful staff, sensory toys and iPads available for their favourite shows. Not to mention the way we’ve designed the salon – soft, pastel colours throughout which is both appealing to children, and calming.

As parents ourselves, we understand how daunting it can be for both baby and their parents/carers to have that first cut. How to avoid and treat Head Lice

The words all parents dread but are almost sure to hear at some point in their children’s lives; Head Lice. Those tiny little critters, once in your household, spread like wild-fire and getting rid of them can seem like the impossible, but with these tips and tricks from our friends at Healthy Heads, you’ll have the little buggers gone for good!

Firstly, let’s start with what head lice are (because all we really know is that they give us the ick) and how they spread.
Head Lice are wingless insects (who would have thought!?) that spend their entire lives on the human scalp and feed exclusively on blood from the scalp. They bite the skin four to five times a day to feed! Lice do not discriminate against anyone, including the cleanest children in the class! They spread by jumping/crawling or falling from head-to-head, typically through sharing brushes/combs, pillows, bus seats or close / social contact (i.e. hugging, taking group selfies, playing close together so the Lice can fall from one person to the other).

What are the long-term effects of head lice?
Lice can cause itching and a rash; the more a person scratches the scalp, the more likely it is to break the skin which makes the scalp susceptible to infection. Lice are a nuisance and can disrupt people’s rest, but they are not responsible for the spread of any infectious disease-causing organisms.

Is there something I can do to prevent catching them?
The best way to prevent head lice is to:
– Avoid head-to-head (or hair-to-hair) contact during play and other activities
– Wear your hair as close to your head as possible (i.e. hair braid, plaits, bun or pony tale)
– Don’t share towels/pillows/clothing such as hats, scarves, coats, hair accessories or brushes
– Preventative Sprays can also work depending on the ingredients. A defence Shampoo and Conditioner can also be used if there is a lice outbreak on the community or home. This type of product can kill any new visitors before they set up house!

What is the first thing I should do when my child is confirmed to have head lice?
– Check all other people living in the home to assess the scope of infestation.
– Decide how you are going to treat the infestation. Inhouse treatment at home or seek a professional lice treatment service in a clinic.
– On the day of the treatment, treat all members of the family who are infested. If you don’t do this you are increasing your chance of re-infection.
– On the day of the treatment wash all bedding, towels, brushes, hats and any soft toys children may cuddle.
– A quick tip is to put all hair brushes, hair accessories and hats in a sealed plastic bag and place in the freezer for 24 hours.

Should my whole family have head lice treatment even if it’s just one of my child’s hair that I can see them in?
Not necessarily – just be sure to visually check all members of the family looking for eggs or lice (you can use a metal lice comb to do this as eggs and lice can be hard to find) for confirmation on who is / is not infected and go from there.

Can I send them back to school immediately after I have completed the treatment?
After a clinic lice treatment, all lice are dead and removed, and children are able to return back to school. Sometimes an additional treatment is recommended around 7 days after depending on the hair length, thickness and level of infestation.

Who is Healthy Heads and what do they do?
